Adjustable Thumb Brace
- Holds the joint that's actually the problem
- Braces the thumb, frees the hand
- Doesn't slide round your wrist
- Thin enough to forget you're wearing it
Locked
It holds the thumb joint steady and leaves the rest of your hand alone.
A molded panel sits directly over the joint at the base of the thumb and holds it in place through the movements that aggravate it — pinching, twisting a lid, turning a key. Support runs up the thumb rather than stopping at the base, and a wrist strap anchors the whole thing so it doesn't rotate or slide as you use your hand.
Your palm and four fingers stay uncovered. You can grip, pinch, type, and hold a cup with the brace on.
- Contoured CMC support pad. A molded panel over the base-of-thumb joint keeps it steady through pinching movements.
- Extended thumb post. Support continues up the thumb instead of ending at the base, for more stability where it counts.
- Anchored wrist strap and palmar bar. An adjustable hook-and-loop closure locks the brace in position so it won't spin or slip.
- Nothing across the palm or fingers. Fine movement, pinching, and gripping stay fully available.
- Lightweight and low-profile. Thin enough to forget you're wearing it, which is what makes all-day use realistic.
Clinicians' Choice designated. Backed by a 60-day money-back guarantee, so you can wear it through a full stretch of ordinary days and send it back if it isn't for you.
One size, adjustable.
There is nothing to measure and no chart to read. The hook-and-loop wrist strap adjusts to fit, and the brace is made to suit either hand.
- Position it. Slide your thumb through the opening so the molded pad sits squarely over the joint at the base of the thumb, with the palmar bar resting across the heel of your hand. Get the pad placed before you fasten anything. If it sits too high on the thumb or too far toward the wrist, the support lands in the wrong spot.
- Anchor it. Wrap the strap around your wrist and press the closure down, working outward from the middle so the brace sits flat.
- Check the fit. Snug, not tight. Your thumb should feel supported but your fingers should move freely, with no pinching, throbbing, or tingling. If you see marks on your skin after wearing it, loosen the strap a notch.
If it rotates while you wear it, tighten the wrist strap rather than repositioning the pad mid-task. The strap is what stops the brace from sliding, and the pad only works while it's sitting over the joint.
What matters is consistency.
The brace works by taking load off the joint during the movements that irritate it, so wearing it through your ordinary day is what builds results.
Here's what our customers report:
- Days 1–2: Immediate steadiness while pinching and gripping, and a little less soreness at the end of a long day. The brace itself takes a day or two to stop feeling unfamiliar.
- Weeks 2–3: Less stiffness first thing in the morning, and the tasks that used to sting — jar lids, keys, buttons — starting to feel manageable again.
- Weeks 4–6: Most people hit their stride here. Steady daily support shows up in how the thumb feels between wears, not only while the brace is on.
- Ongoing: Continued use maintains results. Stopping puts the full load back through the joint, and the old soreness tends to creep back over several weeks.
One note: Our brace is a wearable support, not a medical device and not a treatment or cure for arthritis, osteoarthritis, tendinitis, or any other condition. If you've been diagnosed with a joint condition or you're recovering from an injury or surgery, check with your doctor before use — and stop wearing it if you notice numbness, tingling, or increased pain.
What is it made of?
A durable blend of aluminium alloy, NBR rubber, silicone synthetic leather, and TPU plastic. The alloy holds the shape of the support, the TPU and silicone leather take the abrasion of daily wear, and the rubber sits against your skin.
Allergy & sensitive skin information
- No natural rubber latex. The rubber used is NBR, a synthetic.
How do I care for it?
Machine washable. Close the hook-and-loop strap on itself first so it doesn't catch, wash cool on a gentle cycle in a mesh laundry bag, and lay it flat to dry in the shade.
Skip the bleach, the fabric softener, the tumble dryer, and the iron. Heat is what warps the plastic and softens the adhesive holding the panels together.

Frequently Asked Questions
Most people feel the support the moment it's on — the base of the thumb stops shifting when you pinch. Whether that translates into less pain depends on your joint and how much you're asking of it. Give it a fortnight of regular wear during the activities that hurt before you judge it.
Many people wear it overnight and say mornings start easier for it. Worth being straight with you though: morning stiffness has several possible causes, and if yours comes with numbness, tingling or pins and needles, that points to nerve involvement rather than the thumb joint — worth mentioning to a hand therapist, who'll assess it more usefully than a general practitioner will.
Yes, worn sensibly. Most people wear it for the tasks that aggravate the pain rather than around the clock — a joint benefits from moving normally when it isn't being stressed. If you wear it overnight, fasten it more loosely, and take it off if you ever wake with numbness or tingling.
It's built for one job: supporting the CMC joint at the base of the thumb, which is the joint involved in basal thumb arthritis. People with osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis and trigger thumb often find it useful for that reason. It's not designed for carpal tunnel, which involves a compressed nerve at the wrist and usually calls for a different brace shape. If you're unsure which is causing your pain, a hand therapist can tell you in one appointment.

Bought this to help with my “guitar thumb overuse” strain. Many years of playing leaves me with soreness at the base of my thumb and reduced grip strength. This helps with both, and I can wear it comfortably while playing chords or fingerstyle. Recommend it.

Much better design on this brace as opposed to other expensive brands. There is no seam that tears above the thumb, and it’s a bit more rigid at the base of the palm. I woke this morning with virtually no pain after sleeping in it. Would highly recommend.
It helps a lot! I felt immediate relief after putting it on. I will say the only thing about it that's uncomfortable is that it pinches my skin a little on the top of my hand but that might just be a me problem lol I tend to make my wrist braces VERY tight as well. So it was only natural that I do the same with this. I need one for my right hand now
It helped my thumb joint pain after a few days. I’ve been wearing it for work.
The brace helps. However it does rub the top of my hand sort of raw sometimes. The pads they give you with it do help for that. And hopefully you don't have to wash your hands too much. That makes for a lot of off/on.

It’s perfect! Easy to adjust. Comfortable. Love that it has a liner! Keeps my hand cool!

This helped me so much while I worked. My hand had been swelling up from the work. I have mild osteoarthritis and this kept me from using my thumb and causing further damage and swelling. This had a great price. It fit perfectly for me. Very comfortable to wear once you shape it.
I bought a more expensive one years ago and this Hand Hearth brace at half the price works just as well. Comfortable fit and thumb sleeve is a bonus.
They work as well as the $360 dollar ones my insurance paid for.

I really like the affordability and quality of this, it really relieves the ache in my thumb
Got relief from pain the minute I put it on.
Best brace for cmc! Highly recommend! So comfortable!
Wore yesterday for some gardening work. Was easy to get on and off. Really liked the soft undersleeve. Wish it came with more than 1. The brace worked very well. My hand did not hurt at the end of the day. I thought it would be difficult to get gardening gloves on over it but that was not a problem.

Helped get rid of pain. The design and material allows me to was my hands without having to remove each time.
This brace seems to be well constructed, but it just didn’t fit my hand. Even after adjusting the metal ‘rib’, it still rubbed uncomfortably against my thumb.

I love this new thumb brace! This is the third thumb brace I've had from Hand Hearth. They immediately addressed a concern I had with the first brace, and each new brace has had improvements. They listen to their customers and care about the quality of their products. The strap on this brace curves to fit my palm which is great while I work. The strap is very comfortable. And the thumb portion of the brace is true to size measurements. I will definitely purchase their products again!

I bought it for my left hand. It's quite comfortable and it really stabilizes the area. I love that I can get my hand wet without affecting the product. Its minimal design with high stability and quality has made me super happy. I tried a bunch of different splints and none come close.
Really great and nice quality in spite of the cheaper cost!
